Apple iPhone Duo: Apple's First Foldable

Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo on September 9, 2026, its first entry into the foldable phone category, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. It opens into a 7.6-inch inner display and closes down to a 5.4-inch outer display, both Super Retina XDR panels rated for up to 3000 nits peak brightness and 120Hz ProMotion, a rare choice to match specs on both screens rather than treating the cover display as a stripped-down afterthought.

Pricing

The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 for the 256GB model in the US. Preorders open October 16, 2026, at 5:00 a.m. Pacific time, with sales beginning October 23, 2026, in 70 countries. Apple Pencil (USB-C) support is confirmed but arrives later this year as a separate rollout, not at launch.

Design & Build:

The frame and hinge cover are built from grade 5 titanium, with Ceramic Shield glass on both the front and back, and the phone carries an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. The inner display uses a custom nano-texture finish. One notable design choice: Apple dropped Face ID entirely in favor of Touch ID built into the side button.

Performance

The iPhone Duo runs Apple's new A20 Pro chip with a dual 16-core Neural Engine, paired with a new display engine built to drive both screens simultaneously, and a new C2 cellular modem. Apple has not published a RAM figure, consistent with its usual practice of omitting RAM from official spec sheets.

Cameras

The rear camera system is a 48MP Dual Fusion setup, a 48MP Fusion Main camera and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera, with up to 2x optical-quality zoom achieved by cropping the main sensor rather than a separate telephoto lens. Video capture goes up to 4K at 120fps. On the front, there's a 12MP Center Stage camera plus a separate under-display FaceTime camera built into the inner screen for calls while fully unfolded.

Battery & Charging

A dual-battery system is rated for up to 31 hours of video playback using the inner display, or up to 44 hours using the outer display. Charging supports up to 50% in about 20 minutes on a wired connection, plus MagSafe wireless charging.

Software

The iPhone Duo ships with iOS 27, including Apple Intelligence and the newer Siri AI features, along with software built specifically for the fold, including a vertical home screen dock, side-by-side app support, and layouts that adapt to how far the phone is opened.

It comes in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB storage options, in Star White and Night Sky, both finished in titanium.
